Being healthy is defined by some as not having a disease. For others it means being in the best physical shape, so they run marathons, play sports regularly, or hit the gym for hours. And for some it is about eating the healthiest, most nutritious meals, or super foods. But is incorporating one or the other enough to be healthy overall?
Well, being healthy is all of the above, plus much more. It’s about being in harmony with yourself, both internally and externally. In addition to eating healthy and being active it is also important to be in peace with your spirituality, your relationships with others, and your career/interests.
In order to reach your optimum health, it is vital to address both the physical as well as the metaphysical (emotional needs, spirituality, etc.). However, this isn’t something you can achieve overnight. Being healthy is a constant process and not an end.
Everyone has their own reasons to be healthy such as to:
- Look good for a major life event
- Recover from illness
- Prevent chronic diseases
- Have more energy
- Reduce stress
- Be less dependent on others at old age
- Live longer
All of these are valid reasons and good intentions to be healthy. Your body is a gift given to you by God and you have to make sure you take good care of this gift. Just like how we take care of our children, we also need to take care of our health wholeheartedly, with full attention and dedication.
Instead of focusing too much on temporary goals, it is important to keep your focus on this aspect and hopefully the process of being healthy should be less daunting.
We only have one life and we should make sure we live it to the fullest by taking care of our bodies. Our aim should be to thrive and not just survive.
